Sharp Shifter Karts - Components

1. Compressor and air tank

KARTS:

This uses the axle rotation to compress air to a working pressure of 87 - 140 psi (6 - 10 bar). The compressor is manufactured from Glass Filled Nylon Plastic Polymer.

The reed valves are carbon fibre and the air tank has a Pop Off Valve set at 80 PSI.

2. Driver Control and IIU

Via buttons mounted to the steering wheel.

Electronic:

A 9 Volt battery is mounted to the back of the steering wheel. This supplies electricity to the button switches. Once activated an electronic signal is sent to the valves on the Actuator.

KARTS:

Ignition Interrupt Unit (IIU):

This option is only available when using the electric control of the Actuator. This unit when connected to the engine ignition system will "kill" the ignition when changing up gears. The "kill" time is  0.4 second. Please Note: Using an ignition kill device is illegal in Super Karts USA (SKUSA) 250 and Sprint 125 divisions and having the IIU installed on your kart could disqualify you from racing.

3. Actuator

The Actuator connects to the engine gear lever via the gear change push rod. It utilises the power of compressed air to quickly and positively change gear.

The actuator is machined from aluminium and has a hardened steel piston head.
